What does “Greeno” mean?
We don’t know. It’s a random name we came up with while sitting in our living room for hours trying to decide. We apologize to anyone who shares the same surname, that wasn’t our intent.

What is Bagasse?
Bagasse is a pulp derived from sugar cane stalk after juice extraction. After applying pressure and high heat to the pulp, it is then sterilized, sanitized and molded into our products you see today. In the past, Bagasse was not seen as a usable product. It was incinerated and caused pollution to the air. Today, Bagasse is a valuable byproduct of sugarcane and is used for many applications, one of which is disposable biodegradable tableware.

What is PLA?
PLA or Polylactic Acid is a versatile plant based polymer produced by NatureWorks LLC. It is made from the starch in corn kernels. Then dextrose is extracted from the starch and huge fermenters convert the dextrose into lactic acid, a simple organic chemical that is a byproduct of fermentation. Finally, this compound is converted to lactide, and lactide molecules are linked into long chains or polymers: polylactic acid, PLA. Standard paper cups and containers are coated with petrochemical based plastic (polyethylene) to make it liquid resistant. Greeno Products cups and containers are coated with PLA polymers giving the composition required for compostability.

How long does it take for these products to biodegrade?
Our products take between 90 – 120 days to decompose. This will primarily depend on the composting conditions. Biodegradable tableware is best disposed of in a commercial composting facility.

What is composting and how does it compare to recycling?
Composting is nature's process of recycling decomposed organic materials into a rich soil known as compost. Recycling is taking a product that has been discarded and re-processing the used materials to create new products. Due to the inorganic nature of recyclable materials, such as plastics, it cannot be turned into compost.
